I’m an Engineering Physics freshman…

Now I have begun the long road of university education! On the 14th of August I gathered with my to-be class for the start of the orientation week (the (in)famous “nollning”). I now study to be come a master of science in engineering physics at Linköping Institute of Technology (LiTH).

The introductory mathematic analysis course started on Wednesday, and I am already working hard to learn the new concepts and to finish the homework. For the day I am ahead of the schedule, having finished quadratic factorization and algebra.

I don’t do much else than eating, sleeping and studying math these days, and that will be the reality for me the next weeks. Orientation also takes a lot of time, we get to do all kinds of activities to get to know the school and ourselves better. Today, for instance, we had the famous packling, which is a knockout tournament between the sections of the school to see which one can pack most of their freshmen into one Nissan Micra.

Of course (?) the Y-section (engineering physics, my section) won this year and now holds the Golden Steering Wheel until next year. The highest number of people we crammed into the car were nineteen, in under thirty seconds!

I am now going to bed in my new apartment to face another day at the school. I start at 0800 in the morning with “Ymping”, or morning gymnastics led by our “godfathers” in the higher grades. Studying is fun!

Hello, Planet Lysator!

Just inbetween summer and school

I am home today to get some sleep before I head on to the next Big Thing during this summer, the Frizon music festival!

Before elaborating on that I just want to share what I have been doing the last weeks. I would really like to publish some more photos, but I don’t really have the time now as it is late in the evening before I leave for Frizon.

14th of July – 22nd of July:
Summer sailing with my family in our sailboat.

Perfect winds and sun while the rest of Sweden had rain, rain and again rain.

26th of July: Moved into my new apartment in Linköping! The bird has now officially flown out of his nest. I spent a few days to check out the city and buy some furniture.

28th of July – 2nd of August: Days of relaxing at our grandparents’ summer house at the Lake of Sommen.

2nd of August – 6th of August:
Went to the island of Samsø in Denmark for a family reunion. My grandmother’s family is from the island and most of the families of all her seven (!) brothers and sisters were there and I got to meet several persons in my family I never met before. Everybody on the party were direct descendants from my great-grandmother Ida Øster, and over eighty people from both Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, USA were there. I made new friends with, among others, my second cousins Scott, Daniele and Erica from Virginia and Andrew from Georgia.

Samsø is a beautiful little island accessible by ferry from Sjælland and with large sand/gravel beaches. There was good weather for swimming and sunbathing when the party was over.

I will definitively return to the island in a few years!

That was my summer so far. Not so bad for less than a month of vacation I think. Now for Frizon! Frizon is the largest Swedish music festival with a christian focus. Located outside the city of Örebro, the four-day event gathers around 5 000 youths every year.

I am going with several friends from both Västerås, Uppsala and Stockholm for this, my second year. I hope to listen to good preaching and great music!
