Bring the Boats back home

Today we will bring our dinghies back home from the shore. The snow fell a bit yesterday, so we wanted to get it over with ASAP.

Server upgrade

Upgraded the server today, everything except the harddrive is new!
broach.se in now powered by a much more powerful Dell OptiPlex with a PIII 1GHz CPU and 256 MB ram. Nice!

School on a Saturday

Tomorrow, on Saturday, will I be at school for most of the day. The reason for that is that we are going to have a “open house” as it is called in Swedish – all the ninthgraders are checking out highschools and tomorrow is when we present our school. I will be demonstrating the robot that I and a few others have built. I blogged about this robot not so long ago.
The current state of the robot is…misery. It doesn’t work with required precision, and the drawings become really messy. Hopefully I will be able to investigate it before everything starts.
Today we also had chemistry and I got a test back that I had. Highest grade!

Dadaism

Is one of the things I learnt about this morning. We have been having Literature History the last few months and finally we reached the “end” of the history; the 20th century. We covered the major “modern” movements such as Modernism, Futurism and the ultimate…Dadaism.

Thinking about the future

Since I’m in the third and last year of highschool I am thinking quite a lot of what I will do afterwards. The most probable way to go is to become a Master of Science in Robotics Engineering. One of the major reasons for studying that is that the course is given in my hometown, Västerås, at Mälardalen University.
Another thing to consider is the millitary service, called “Värnplikt” or more commonly, “Lumpen” in Swedish. In Sweden, every man has to go through a recruitment process, and about 10% of them become recruited. This may sound strange, but Sweden hasn’t been in a conflict for over 150 years!
If I want to do the millitary service, which is supposed to be a very good experience, I have about three things that sound interesting. (Now will my English skills really be tested in these attempted translations that follow)
1. Officer in the Amphibious batallion; Skipper
Driving a ship in 50+ knots around the archipelago is really cool. Well, really, it is one of the things that I think would suit me the most. I am a sailor and I like technology. This lets me to get out and be on the sea and study hard to get the “Stridsbåt 90″ go where I want it to.
2. Intelligence Assistant
Learning a lot about international affairs and a general knowledge of intelligence. Seems to fit me too.
3. Interrogation interpreter
A year of full-time studying of the Russian language! If there’s anything I see like a challenge this would be it. This is supposed to be one of the most difficult things to become in the military service. I even heard that the final test is to be in Russia for a few weeks and talk and act like you are a Russian. Beat that!

Hackergotchi

Yeah! Check out my flashy new Hackergotchi!

School Prom tickets

In a few minutes the tickets to the school’s Christmas Prom will be released. They cost 380 SEK (about $42 ), and hopefully I will get a ticket.

Consumer Digital Rights

I am quite into this whole DRM/Piracy controversy and I am proudly supporting the “Pirates” in the campaign.

I would like to encourage you to sign this petition and read the information on the site.

The wonderful world of blogging

Found an old friend of mine that runs his own blog on blogspot: http://karlandin.blogspot.com (Swedish site)

School Project kickoff

We have started our Projects today. For those who not are accustomed to the Swedish Higschool system the Project is a 100-hour project that gives (haha!) 100 Swedish Highschool points. We are working with a company to find a solution to a problem or develop a product. Our group, which constists of 12 people, are working together with ABB Force Measurement here in Västerås to construct and build a 3D Volumetric Display. Tough work, but really cool :)
