Yes, she has been left unused under my desk for a longer while now, but yesterday I decided to plug her back in. I nuked the old Gentoo installation and installed the oh-so-nice Ubuntu Breezy.
For all who don’t know; Lysboj (Swedish for “buoy that lights”) is my own desktop computer, a PII 350 that I have used as my primarily computer the last few years. The reputation for Lysboj grew as I used her in various LAN:s with my friends. Playing Quake just as good (sometimes even better) as the other people’s shiny P4:s and Athlons. Lysboj has been my primary focus when it comes to silly hardware projects and even though every part of the computer has been replaced several times it is still the same PII 350 as she always has been.
These are the current specs:
Processor: Pentium II Deschutes, 349. 107 MHz (690.17 bogomips)
Memory: 386828 kB
HDD: 80GB Segate
OS: Ubuntu Breezy 5.10
After a day of usage I can tell that she really feels swift and quick, and I need to get something new to work on. Ubuntu has the drawback that it makes you lazy

Yay! Got a delivery of about 30 Ubuntu Breezy CD:s from ShipIt. So if anyone from Västerås or the immediacy wants to get a free and complete Linux system, just mail me and I will give one to you.

The first part of the project description is completed, and right on time according to the schedule.
We are discussing risks and possible pitfalls about the project, and they are actually really many. Complexity, price, lack of managment and time are just a few examples that we fear will happen during these 100 hours in which the project is done.

How to make yourself irreplacable at your company by writing unmaintainable code. As seen on Slashdot.

Today we wrote on our project description. We divided the tasks in the group, and I and another person took the goal description and the project requirements. We have to be finished by tomorrow and we still have a lot to do.

I love spending a lot of time on Wikipedia articles. Feels like contributing to something really big. Today I continued to work on the Laser dinghy article. Yes, that’s me on the pictures.

Checked up the timestamp problem, and found the setting to be off by 20 (!) hours. I just configured wordpress to use the Swedish timezone UTC+1, and this last post is finally posted in the right time. The comment spam I mentioned a few minutes ago must therefore be posted at lunchtime yesterday. I guess the spammer was an immature person from my class at school who found a link and needed to have some fun.

Got my first comment spam tonight at 4 AM. The IP adress was 62.247.4.250; which is the same adress as my school. Either I have a problem with timestamps on my server, or the user posted from a faked IP. Nobody can stay in our school until 4 in the morning
